Greyhounds notch their first win in six games in a dominating performance.

Finally, sweet relief! After a drought of wins to begin the summer, the Greyhounds have finally picked up their first win since the early days of June. And what a win it was- the perfect storm of offense and defense. The Greyhounds put on a show in this game, winning 13-2.

The game, at home against the Sterling Heights Nationals, began with a dominant performance by Greyhound pitchers, who allowed only two hits and two runs in the first two innings. The first inning was pitched by Ryan Brown, who walked none of the batters he faced and fanned four (one reached base on a dropped third strike) in a one-hit, one-run first inning. Derek Goerke took the hill in the second inning, with a performance much similar to Brown’s; while he walked one and struck out one, he also gave up only one hit and one run.

In the third inning, Zachary Clark took the hill and allowed a hit to the leadoff batter- and to no others. In a show of pitching excellence, Clark shut the Nationals out, putting down nine straight batters after allowing what would be his only hit against. Of the nine batters he faced, two were sent down to the dugout on strikes. Also, in an impressive show of fielding, Anthony “Kirby” Hall fielded seven ground balls for outs.

An inning later, the Greyhounds bats came to life. Entering the bottom of the fourth, the score was tied 2-2. The ‘Hounds broke the game wide open with 8 runs before the inning ended. The Greyhounds’ offense was led by Clark, Grant Stephenson, Jackson Winbigler, and Julian Jacob, who each safely made it to first twice, and Goerke, who notched a pair of RBI during the game.

The next game is Tuesday, June 28, at home against the Maniax. Come out to cheer on the ‘Hounds as they look to avenge an earlier loss. Go Greyhounds!
