The Greyhounds returned home earlier this week  after spending a week in Myrtle Beach, SC playing in the Triple Crown Sports Summer Nationals. It was truly a memorable experience for all the players and families, with a perfect mix of baseball and summertime fun on the beach.

First and foremost, I would like to say how proud I am of ALL the Greyhound players during our stay in SC. The coaching staff received numerous compliments on how well the boys carried themselves on the field, hotel property, restaurants, pool area, beach and attractions. The maturity shown by all the players was obvious throughout our stay, and clearly expressed by the coaching staff during our closing meeting in SC.

On July 13 the team van departed for Myrtle Beach at 7:00am driven by Mark Morris. The van was stuffed with all the team gear, and luggage for families who flew down. Greyhound families started their departure on July 13 - 15, depending on whether they were driving or flying. *** Thanks for driving all the gear down Mark!!! ***

The opening ceremonies and skills competition started on July 15 at TicketReturn.com stadium, which is home to the Pelican minor league team in Myrtle Beach. The Greyhounds did well in all the skills competition, including placing 1st in bunting. It was an exciting evening for all the players and families, including Sumo Wrestling. (See Picture Library)

The Greyhounds started pool play games on July 16 at 8:00am at Loris High School, which was about 45 minutes from the beach. In was the only day of travel, and the team ended up going 1-1 with a win in game #1 over the Carolina Vipers (3-2), and loss in the 2nd game to the CT Bombers (3-2).

On day 2, the boys played on the turf fields at the Grand Park Complex located in Myrtle Beach. The day started with a (7-5) win over D-Bat McDaniel from Texas, and a (9-5) win over the CT Bombers, forcing a pool play championship game against the CT Bombers. It was a close 7 inning game, with the Greyhound losing (6-5).

At the end of pool play, the Greyhounds were 3-2 (18th Seed), and was placed in the Pelican Bracket with the middle 32 teams. The top 16 teams were sent to the Championship bracket, and the bottom 16 teams were placed in the Back to the Beach Bracket.

On day 3, the Greyhounds returned to Grand Park Complex for two pool play games in the Pelican bracket with a (7-4) win over Force Ohio and (8-7) win over South Jersey Elite White. The two wins earned the Greyhounds the #8 seed going into single elimination play for day 4.

On day 4, the Greyhounds returned to Grand Park complex with an (8-7) win over Brooklawn, but lost later that day (11-0) to the South Jersey Elite White in the quarter final game. The Greyhounds ended up going 6-3 over 4 days against some of the toughest competition in the country, and quickly adapted to the high temperatures, humidity, and larger playing field.

Great Job Greyhounds!
