Greyhound Baseball Club traveled to Battle Creek, MI to compete in the GameDay USA July Mayor's Tournament over the July 12-14, 2013 weekend. It was an exciting weekend of baseball with 10 teams registered in the 11u division. The tournament was held at Bailey Park...and it was a hot weekend!

The Greyhounds started pool play on Friday afternoon with a 19-0 win against the Titans from Chicago and a 13-1 win against the Anchor Bay Angels. The team returned on Saturday afternoon to continue pool play, with a 10-0 win against the Goodrich Thunder and 11-1 win against the Blue Jays Black. Strong hitting and solid defense gave the Greyhounds the #1 seed going into Sunday, and the team earned a bye in the first round of bracket play.

Our first game on Sunday was against the Lincoln Way Prospects. The Greyhounds jumped to a quick lead, and were looking to close the game in the 4th inning winning 9-0 with the bases loaded and 0 outs. The Prospects were able to shut down our offense, and quickly rallied to earn 7 runs. It was a good battle between two very competitive teams, with the Greyhounds winning 9-7.

The championship game was against the #2 seed HBF Maroons, who entered the tournament with a strong lineup of players from their own team and 4 guest players from the MCBC HitDogs. The Greyhounds battled strong throughout the game, but were unable to knock out the Maroons. The final score was 10-2.

The Greyhounds ended the weekend with a 5-1 record and enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Battle Creek, MI. I would like to thank GameDay USA for putting on a very organized tournament and all the 11u teams who participated. We enjoyed being around families who showed good sportsmanship throughout the entire weekend!!!
