BAT RULES

MABF will for the 2012 season institute a "limited" bat standard which we believe will be a transitory fix for the 2012 season. MABF suggests being very careful in purchasing bats this year as MABF feels that the NATIONAL standard will almost assuredly have a very significant change for the 2013 season.

For 2012 consider the following:

  1. Macomb Amateur Baseball Federation (MABF) league bat standard for 2012.
  2. American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) our "sanctioning body", their post season standards for 2012.
  3. Tournaments that are sponsored by other National sanctioned bodies in which your team may be entered.

MABF will continue to evaluate its policies year to year as it has in the past. The first sets of rules are MABF’s and will be used for league play for the 2012 season. The second set of rules are American Amateur Baseball Congress (AABC) for the 2012 AABC Post Season Tournament play. MABF sends over 20 teams to AABC postseason tournament play each year, thus familiarizing you with the following material will be helpful in 2012. The third set of rules will be for outside tournament play that your team chooses to take part in.

2012 MABF Season Rules

For Roberto Clemente - 8&U, Jackie Robinson - 9&U, Willie Mays - 10&U, Gil Hodges - 11&U, Pee Wee Reese - 12&U and Sandy Koufax 13's -13&U Divisions there will be no restrictions which include size, composition and weight to length differential.

For Sandy Koufax 14's - 14&U, Ken Griffey Jr. - 15&U, Mickey Mantle - 16&U and Connie Mack 18&U Leagues, simply put; the bat must carry the "BBCOR" marking or be a wood bat. This will conform to National High School Federation (NFHS) standards.

2012 AABC Tournament Rules

In AABC for Roberto Clemente - 8&U, Jackie Robinson - 9&U, Willie Mays - 10&U, Gil Hodges - 11&U, Pee Wee Reese - 12&U and Sandy Koufax 13's -13&U and in addition Sandy Koufax 14's - 14&UDivisions Post Season Tournaments, the standard will be that the "BPF" may not exceed "1.15".

In AABC for Ken Griffey Jr. - 15&U, Mickey Mantle - 16&U and Connie Mack 18&U Leagues, simply put; the bat must carry the "BBCOR" marking or be a wood bat. This will conform to National High School Federation (NFHS) standards. Thus consistent with MABF Rules.

Other Tournament Rules

Please Note: Other Tournaments that your team may choose to play in may have its own set of bat rules; it would be wise to consult each organization’s rules as they all differ in some way. You may visit each organization’s web sites that are listed on the internet or simply use the links area on the MABF web site where they are listed under the folder: Baseball - Amateur Organizations (U.S.). For your convenience a direct link to most National Organizations rules can be found in the folder MABF Rules.
